How it works

Ask once. Plip does the rest.

Hold ⌃⌥, say it. Plip sees your screen and does the clicking.

⌃⌥

“

Checks before the big clicks. Before Plip clicks a button like Send, Buy or Delete, it shows you what it is about to do and waits for your answer.

  • “find my lease pdf”
  • “help me apply to this job”
  • “tidy up my desktop”
  • “flights to Miami next Friday”
  • “rewrite this email to sound friendlier”
  • “text Sara I'm running ten minutes late”
  • “how do I send this deck as a PDF?”
  • “remind me to call the dentist at 4”
  • “set a 10 minute tea timer”
  • “turn on dark mode”
  • “run my Log Water shortcut”
  • “remember I prefer aisle seats”
  • “volume 30”

Setup & privacy

Up and running in four steps.

No new subscription. Nothing hidden.

  1. 1

    Open Plip

Drag Plip into Applications and open it. It's notarized by Apple, so macOS just asks if you're sure.

  2. 2

    Allow three permissions

Screen Recording to see your screen, Accessibility to click and type, and Microphone to hear you.

  3. 3

    Connect your AI

Use the Claude, ChatGPT or Cursor plan you already have. For Claude, Plip opens Terminal once and sets it up; ChatGPT and Cursor need their command-line app, and Plip gives you the command.

  4. 4

    You're all set

Plip suggests three things to try. Sign in with Google now or later, or skip it: basic profile only, never your Gmail, Drive, contacts or calendar.

What Plip sees, and where it goes

  • Plip looks at your screen only when you hold Control + Option and ask, or during a walkthrough you started.
  • Your words, the recent conversation, a short summary of your memory, a map of the on-screen controls and, when needed, a screenshot go to your own Claude, ChatGPT or Cursor account.
  • Plip's servers get an anonymous daily check-in (on by default), bug reports you choose to send and, only if you sign in, your Google name and email. Never your screen, voice or files.
  • Your voice goes through Apple's speech recognition by default, or stays on your Mac with on-device Parakeet.

FAQ

Questions, answered.

Still curious? Email team@plip.dev or ask on GitHub.

Do I need another AI subscription?

No. Plip runs on the Claude, ChatGPT or Cursor plan you already pay for, and its requests count toward that plan's limits like using it directly. No plan? Paste an Anthropic API key instead, billed per use.

Which AI works best with Plip?

Claude is the quickest: Plip opens Terminal once to install and sign in to Claude Code for you. ChatGPT (through Codex) and Cursor need their command-line app first; Plip gives you the command, and Codex needs Node.js. Claude and ChatGPT can see screenshots; Cursor is text-only, so Plip reads the screen's controls out to it. Gemini isn't listed: Google stopped serving Gemini CLI to personal plans on June 18, 2026.

Will it do things without asking me?

Everyday steps happen right away: opening apps, clicking, typing and pressing keys. Before it clicks a button like Send, Buy or Delete, quits an app or tidies your desktop, Plip shows you what it is about to do and waits for your answer. Say “undo” after a tidy to put the files back. Typing and pressing Return are not previewed, so a message Plip types into a chat is sent.

Is Plip really free?

Yes. Plip is open source under the MIT license, so the app you download stays free to use and its code stays public. Your AI plan is billed by its provider as usual.

Do I have to sign in?

No. Plip works without an account; you can sign in with Google at the end of setup, later, or never. If you do, Plip asks Google only for basic profile access (your name, email and picture), never your Gmail, Drive, contacts or calendar, and nothing you ask Plip is tied to your account.

Can I use it on my work Mac?

Check with your IT team first. Plip needs Screen Recording and Accessibility, which some companies manage or block. The setup section above lists everything Plip sends and where, so you can show them.

Does it work without a notch, or on an Intel Mac?

Macs without a notch work: Plip draws its own pill at the top of the screen. You do need an Apple Silicon Mac (M1 or later) running macOS 13 or later.

Plip Pro is coming

Plip stays free and open source. Pro will use fewer tokens and handle longer tasks.

One email when Pro opens, and the occasional Plip update. Privacy

Stop clicking around. Just ask.
