01Agreeing to these terms
These terms are an agreement between you and Plip's maintainer ("we", "us") and cover the Plip website and the Plip app for macOS (together, "Plip"). By downloading or using Plip, you agree to them. If you don't agree, please don't use Plip. Our Privacy Policy explains what data Plip handles.
02The open-source license
Plip's source code is licensed under the MIT License. Nothing in these terms limits the rights that license gives you to use, copy, modify and share the code. If these terms and the MIT License disagree about the code, the MIT License wins. These terms cover everything else, including the website, our official downloads and any services we run.
03Who can use Plip
You must be at least 13 years old (16 in the EEA and UK) and old enough to accept these terms where you live. If you use Plip on behalf of an organization, you confirm you're allowed to accept these terms for it.
04Your Plip account
The app asks you to sign in with Google the first time you open it. Use your own Google account, keep your Mac and sign-in secure, and don't share your account or sign in as someone else. You can sign out at any time, and you can ask us to delete your account by emailing team@plip.dev from the address you signed in with. We may suspend or delete an account that breaks these terms. Signing in doesn't give us access to what you do with Plip; the Privacy Policy explains exactly what the account holds.
05Your AI provider and other services
Plip works with services you sign in to or connect yourself, such as Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor, Gemini, the Anthropic API, ElevenLabs and AssemblyAI. You're responsible for your accounts with them, for following their terms and usage policies, and for any usage limits or fees they charge, including usage caused by Plip's requests. We don't control those services and aren't responsible for their availability, changes or handling of your data.
Plip isn't affiliated with or endorsed by any of these companies or by Apple. Apple, Mac, macOS and iMessage are trademarks of Apple Inc., and other names and logos belong to their owners.
06Using Plip responsibly
Plip acts on your Mac at your direction. You're responsible for what you ask it to do and for the actions you confirm, including messages it sends for you and files it moves or changes. Review previews and drafts before you say yes, and only message people you have the right to contact. Don't use Plip to:
- break the law or violate anyone's rights, including privacy and intellectual property rights;
- send spam or messages people didn't agree to receive;
- get into accounts, devices or data you're not allowed to access;
- harass, deceive or harm other people;
- interfere with the website or the services Plip connects to.
07AI can be wrong
Plip's answers, steps and actions come from AI models and can be incomplete, out of date or simply wrong. It may misread your screen, click the wrong thing or misunderstand what you said. Double-check anything important, and don't rely on Plip for medical, legal, financial, safety or other high-stakes decisions. Nothing Plip says is professional advice. Keep backups of files that matter.
08Downloads and forks
Get Plip from this website or our official GitHub releases. Anyone can build and share their own version of the code, but we're not responsible for copies you get anywhere else or for versions other people have changed.
09Plip Pro and the waitlist
Plip Pro is still in development. Joining the waitlist doesn't guarantee access, specific features, a launch date or a price. If Pro launches with its own terms, we'll show them to you before you sign up.
10Contributions and feedback
Code and other contributions you submit to the Plip repository are shared under the MIT License, unless the repository says otherwise, and you confirm you have the right to share them. If you send us ideas, feedback, bug reports or feature requests, including from inside the app, we're free to use them without owing you anything. Please don't put other people's private information in them.
11The Plip name and mascot
The MIT License covers the code, not the Plip name, logo or mascot. You're welcome to mention Plip by name, but please don't use them in a way that suggests your project or fork is the official Plip or is endorsed by us.
12No warranty
Plip is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy and non-infringement. We don't promise that Plip will be uninterrupted, error-free or secure, that its output or actions will be correct, or that it will work with every app, service or version of macOS.
13Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent the law allows, Plip's maintainer, authors and contributors aren't liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, or for lost data, files, profits or goodwill, messages sent, or charges from other services, arising from or related to Plip or these terms. Our total liability for any claim is limited to the greater of what you paid us in the 12 months before the claim or US$50.
These limits apply whatever the legal theory, even if we were told the damage was possible, and even if a remedy fails of its essential purpose. Some places don't allow some of these limits, so they may not all apply to you; where that's the case, our liability is limited as far as the law allows.
14Indemnity
If someone brings a claim against us because of how you used Plip, content or messages you sent with it, or your breaking these terms or the law, you agree to cover our reasonable costs and losses from that claim, including legal fees, to the extent the law allows.
15Talk to us first
If you have a problem with Plip, email team@plip.dev before starting any formal claim, and describe the issue and what you'd like us to do. We'll both try in good faith to resolve it within 60 days. Most problems get sorted out this way.
16Changes and ending
You can stop using Plip at any time by deleting the app and, if you like, asking us to delete your account. We may change, pause or stop the website, downloads or features at any time, without liability. We may also update these terms; the date at the top shows the current version, and using Plip after a change means you accept it.
17General
These terms, together with the Privacy Policy and the MIT License, are the whole agreement between you and us about Plip. If any part is found unenforceable, the rest still applies. If we don't enforce a part right away, we haven't given up the right to do so later. You can't transfer these terms to someone else without our permission, but we may transfer them, for example if the project gets a new maintainer or company behind it. Sections that by their nature should last, like the warranty disclaimer, limitation of liability and indemnity, continue after you stop using Plip.
